Liam's story
After sustaining a brain injury in late 2018, Liam and mother Stacey started their journey without any outside assistance. Acting as mother and carer began to take its toll on Stacey and other immediate family members, which led them to reaching out for help. In a moment of pure coincidence, Liam and Stacey were meeting with their case manager, when dear friend Kerry knocked on the door to visit the family. Kerry immediately took Liam to the backyard for a game of darts and within minutes the two were laughing and having fun. It was at this moment, Stacey asked if Kerry, a qualified support worker could be brought on board as a member of Liam’s care team.
Assisting Liam 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, the two can often be found cooking, playing darts, the PlayStation or Ping-Pong, a game Kerry has picked up over the past six months and has become admittedly quite good at! The extra support has allowed Stacey to return to the workforce, and more importantly return to her most important role of being a mum again. The assistance from Kerry has allowed more flexibility for Liam’s family and allows him to focus on his goals. As his rehabilitation progresses, Liam is looking forward to regaining his independence, returning to school and hopes to get his driver’s licence in the near future.
