Tanya's story
“I enjoy making my clients smile and feel taken care of. I take great pride in my attention to detail and my perceptiveness to their emotional state”
With a range of experience in the Arts, Aged Care and the Police Force, Community Care was a natural career progression for Tanya. She thrives in a community based, team environment and gets a lot of satisfaction in delivering meaningful support to enrich the lives of others.
As a Disability Support Worker, Tanya assists clients with a range of tasks but one of her favourites by far is taking her current client Michelle to hydrotherapy classes. After COVID restrictions put classes on hold, Michelle’s mobility started to decline. Since resuming classes, Michelle’s strength is returning, but it is her mental health that has seen the most benefit. Tanya is proud to be a part of Michelle’s journey and loves seeing the positive impact it’s had on her life.
Working in Community Care provides Tanya with the flexibility to work the hours she wants. “It has given me the flexibility and time I need for my family. Now that my two youngest are both in high school, I appreciate the flexibility to work around my children’s schooling and sporting commitments.”
On weekends when Tanya is not working, she spends time with family and friends. Over the winter period, Tanya races cars as a member of the Southern Districts Car Club. In 2020, she won 5 out of 6 events in 2020 Ladies division, leading to finishing top of the podium as State Ladies Champion!
Tanya prides herself on being a loyal, trustworthy and responsible person and admits to being one of the first to help out when someone is in need. “Nothing makes me happier than knowing I have made a positive impact on someone’s life, no matter how small or trivial. It is wonderful to get positive feedback from clients, their families and from the team at Programmed. It really motivates me to continue with this rewarding career.”
